Like you I really can't afford Photoshop. I'm no graphic artist or anything, but Gimp does more than what I need. It has many cool features and for a price tag of free!! You really can't beat that. If you are a graphic designer and can actually figure out all the complicated menus and options Photoshop has it might be worth it. But for me Gimp does more than what I need and works great.
