The Cost To Fix a Computer

I recently built my own computer and I know from experience it can be a pain in the butt finding and fixing issues. (In my case it was the bios not giving my RAM enough voltage.)

I am the family tech support guy. It makes sense that every family has one of these, otherwise, you may be left to the wolves trying to find an honest computer repair store…

You are right, its hard to trust a computer repair shop. There’s even a possibility that that they’ll wreck your computer harder – lets you pay more $$$.

I know what you mean, some computer repair companies take advantage of users who don’t know much. Me on the other hand, I like teaching my users as I fix their problems.

I agree with everyone else. It’s really hard to find a very good repair shop that you’d be able to trust your gadget with. It’s also good to learn some basic trouble shooting.

I almost never use a computer repair shop. It is so expensive and sometimes doesn’t even fix the problem for good. Also, unless you have a really expensive computer, it will be cheaper to find someone you know to fix it or get a new one. There is so much free help on the internet as well which is a good place to start.

We use our computers everyday when designing websites, but not all of us are computer savvy enough to fix the hardware aspects. It’s really unfortunate that people will take advantage of the unknowing customer just to make a few bucks. This video reminds me of the Jiffy lube video i saw on the computer where services were never even finished on a car that was brought in and paid for!

I dont like using repair shops because of the expense. Im sure they dont do that much to warrant the prices they charge sometimes.

I built my own computer and then it keeps crashing. The problem is that I have no idea what, why, who, where, and when. Ever since then, I decided to just buy a good o’ Dell.

Sometimes its really hard to trust people, however many local businesses are starting to charge flat rate, and do the amount of work to fit the price. If a problem usually costs $150 and was easier, often times they will clean up the rest of the computer, add some memory or do what would come to the agreed $150 and still help overall. Virus’s are not sciences and most times you dont want to be charged per hour.

I have completely lost trust in computer repair shops. 1 year back I sent my computer to a repair shop and he said my RAM had a problem. He replaced it and then when I tried using my old RAM on my friend’s comp it worked just fine. From dat day, I have completely stopped trusting those guys.

I wouldn’t let a computer repair shop touch my machine.

I’m also the family tech guy, and at times it ca be really annoyed. Whenever my father buys a new gadget he throws it at me and says “Ok show me how to use it”. Well, I’m not a wizard, and don’t understand ALL gadgets, nor do I wish to…

This is really annoying, so I can perfectly relate with you.

There are a lot of dishonest computer repair people out there taking advantage of people who do not know better. I believe that a smaller repair shop where you know the owners will provide you better service than these big name places like geek squad, etc.

The problem is when people find out you’re the family tech guy. I do not mine dealing with my immediate families gadget problems but it’s when you’re seen as a free repair service by people who hardly know you. It’s best to keep some things quiet.

some of companies take more cost for a customer that seems doesn’t know much about computer. so, sometime pretend to be expert is better.

    I agree!
having one IT guy in the clan is very convenient. I encountered a dishonest computer repair man that made me crazy asking me to buy different parts of computers that
I think out of the issue. anyway, that is the reason why I am now the tech guy of the clan, I dont want it to happen to my family…
