New Cell Phones

Shop. Compare. Save on cell phones.
Okay, I finally decided I needed to get back into the world of communication. My wife and I have been without a cell phone for the past year and a half. Frankly, it’s been quite nice. I can think of many reasons not to have a cell phone:

  • I never have to give people at work my “emergency” number :)
  • I never feel like I have to carry it with me everywhere
  • I don’t have to talk on the phone in public - it’s hard enough in private! :)

All that aside, there are many times that I wish I would have had a cell phone. Yes, it’s often trivial situations such as going to the grocery store and forgetting what your wife told you to get, or calling in to the radio station to win a prize of some sort.

Honestly though, the main reason we decided to get back into the cell phone world is because my wife has 9 weeks left in her pregnancy. She feels like she could go early on this one. I’ve learned to listen when a woman has premonitions!

After searching the net long and hard, far and wide I came across this niftly little site: Let’s Talk. All I did was enter my zip code and I was given an array of options for different providers, cell phones, and calling packages. The providers in my calling area were:

  • T-Mobile
  • Verizon
  • Nextel
  • Cingular
  • AT&T
  • Cricket

Certainly, these are not fly by night companies. I actually went for a family share plan so my wife and I could have our own phones and share the same minutes. This will come in handy since I have a hectic schedule in college this semester.

I chose a T-Mobile 400 anytime minute with free long distance & stuff & stuff. I figured I would either get a T-Mobile or Verizon since they were the two highest ranked wireless companies on J.D. Power & Associates. I’ve had Verizon in the past. I was pleased with their service, but this time T-Mobile beat them by $10 a month.

So, if you’re in the market for a new cell phone, I suggest you give Let’s Talk ring!
