Fixing IE Issues

This morning for whatever reason I was loathing IE. I hadn’t done any development work all weekend so I don’t even know why it was on my mind. In any case I had an epiphany of sorts.

Despite being totally proprietary, IE seems to be the most easily exploited browser due to its support of active x. (It’s no coincidence that IE users suffer from the most viruses, but that is neither here nor there). What if someone were to hack IE and make use of the popular open source rendering engine webkit?

So instead of the ugly display because IE still can’t do CSS rounded corners and other goodies, and instead of lame javascript errors, IE could finally work!

Surely I’m not the smartest guy on the planet. Someone had to have thought of this already. But would that person spend the time to make it happen?

Sure they would… if they worked for Google.

I was delighted to find Google Chrome Frame. It

I tried it out on a particular site I was working on. I have never seen IE render so beautifully!

Thanks Google for making IE suck less!

Ooh I wasn’t aware that Google Chrome did this. IE has annotyed me for years. I tried FireFox but I hate the way FireFox uses over twice as much memory as IE.

Will IE listen and learn for their next browser update? I hope so, those javascript errors have wasted a lot of my time.

Man can I relate. I don’t think I have ever coded a site where I didn’t curse IE at least 5 times. To blow off steam when I realize my design is boinked in IE, I like to search MSN using profanities regarding their browser ;)

I think my problem is that I code it using Firefox/Opera to check it, so when it looks fine in Firefox, I assume since my code is more or less right, it will also look similar in IE. Then, I check it in IE and realize I still have a few hours of work cut out for me. Perhaps I should do it the other way around and get the trouble over ahead of time.

I caught an article about the Chrome Frame before, I think it had to deal with Microsoft being upset about it circumventing IE security, but in truth IE circumvents security enough as it is, so it seemed like they had their anger misplaced. I will have to check it out though and see if it makes my life any easier…

I’ve given up on IE and mostly use FireFox. Plus the plugins for it are pretty useful for the most part.

Personally, my solution to IE is firefox or the beta version of chrome with extensions for adblock. But true, when doing web design i find i have to watch out for and accommodate for IE users since they are such a big part of the online viewer community. Luckily, generally if it works in IE it works in the other browsers, at least in my experience.

I’ve finally given up on IE. Just need to get the rest of my visitors to do the same !!

One day IE will take more notice of CSS standards and we’ll all have easier jobs to do. Until then I just dig deep and design my pages twice :(

IE always has been a pain. they should start taking notice of W3C standards

Lately, I’m using Opera more and more to surf, very fast and nimble browser, would like to remind everyone to please test their sites there as I still ee sites occasionally that haven’t been tested there.

BTW…What prevents a true global standard?

If you have difficulties when using Add/Remove Programs to create a startup disk (for example, if the Wizard prompts for your operating system installation disk and you cannot find it, or you only have a manufacturer provided restore disk or partition) go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm. Download a Windows98 boot disk executable file from that site, put an empty floppy disk in the correct disk drive, and then double click on the downloaded file to make the disk. I recommend Windows 98 SE Custom, which includes smartdrv.

Emptying the cache will not be sufficient to fix things if a hidden file in the cache folders, called index.dat, is corrupt. Our best alternative in such a situation is to delete the cache folders in their entirety, but this cannot be done from within Windows under normal circumstances.

Index.dat is a system file, and any attempt to delete it while Windows is running or while the user is logged on will be blocked. Therefore, we need to reboot into DOS mode or, when running later versions of Windows that support user accounts, we need to log in to Windows using a different Administrator account to that which is affected.

What I don’t understand is why a multi-billion dollar company cannot keep up with other browsers such as Fire Fox – but if you work online or have a business online you need IE because SOO many people use it :(

install the latest version of Internet Explorer, version 8. Installing the latest version of Internet Explorer will resolve several issues that were experienced in earlier versions of Internet Explorer. The latest version also includes the latest security, performance, and feature enhancements.

If you do not want to install Internet Explorer 8, or for some reason cannot do so, you may be able to resolve problems with Internet Explorer 6 by installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Service Pack 3.

I’m glad to see IE’s share of the market declining, but I don’t know if it will ever be phased out. It’s interesting that Chrome now has as much marketshare as Safari I heard, so maybe it truly is a contender.

I prefer Firefox over anything. Never liked IE because it is such crap. I have yet to try Chrome though.

I have given up IE. I have been using Firefox for a long time. Google Chrome is also good. But for convenient plugins Firefox is my all time favorite since I first used it.

I have started using Firefox a lot recently. My son had been trying to get me to stop using IE for a long time due o the fact that there was more chances of getting a virus. Thanks for the good information on Google Chrome.

I echo the same message as most others here. Firefox has long replaced IE for me. Tried chrome as well, but FF simply rocks!

  28. Stafford Tandon - February 23, 2010

IE i think is passe. Now safari and chrome rock.

  29. computer repair - February 25, 2010

IE really sucks right now but I also give credit to them because I learned to surf using their browser and at first I was totally into them. But as time passes great browsers keep on coming in and IE will be long forgotten. Well, just like the fall out boy said in one of their songs “Thanks for the Memories”.
